On Thursday, February 16, the Bergamo-based Italian who recently suffered a spate of bad luck and injuries gained a well deserved and unexpected podium in the giant slalom at the FSI Alpine World Ski Championships: a sparkling and surprising bronze in the specialty she expected the least from (Sofia confessed she had not trained for the slalom for the whole month of January). To the Human Tecar team, who’ve been supporting her throughout rehabilitation after various issues with her left knee, it’s a real joy to see her hard work and determination have paid off as she closed the race in 2’06”29, few hundredths of a second behind Tessa Worley and Mikaela Shiffrin.
Sofia herself was utterly thrilled. She’d not done as well as she would have liked in the downhill race and after the GS, threw her ski poles to the ground, hugged an Italian teammate and – as se later told reporters – simply thought, “Ooh… How wonderful!!” Oh… che bellooo!! It’s well worth listening to her interview – even in Italian – just to hear her shout for joy.
Her sense of “liberation” and happiness is shared by all of us at Human Tecar: Sofia is one great 24-year-old, with a good head on her shoulders, solid values, brilliant talent and plenty of grit. Way to go, Sofia!
