The capital of Georgia (not the US state: the country just south of Russia, north of Turkey) would have most spelling bee contestants stumped. Yet to the Italian Fencing Federation – which has been actively supported by Human Tecar for the past 11 years –, T-B-I-L-I-S-I is likely to be unforgettable after the European Fencing Championships of June 12-17. Italy dominated the city’s Gymnastic Arena throughout the week, eventually getting top ranking in the medal table, ahead of Russia and France. Four gold, three silver and four bronze medals, for a spectacular grand total of eleven (coincidentally, the number of years in our partnership): one more than the already bounteous booty of the 2011 event in Sheffield (ten medals).
The extra medal came with the men’s saber team on Saturday, June 17: Luca Curatoli (who’d just won individual bronze), Luigi Samele, Enrico Berrè and brand new dad Aldo Montano.
Next on the agenda are the 2018 European Championships in Novi Sad, Serbia… Not forgetting the World Championships in Leipzig, this coming July 19-26. Human Tecar will be there. En garde, fencing world!
