There can be no bigger or more famous major marathon in the world: over 50,300 runners and 2 million spectators, not counting the many other thousands of viewers that follow the NYCM onscreen or online – countless aficionados of an iconic city’s iconic event. The latest edition – number 40 – was held, as always (sole exception, the year of Hurricane Sandy), the first Sunday in November, when even New York trees along the route from Verrazano Bridge to Central Park dress up for the occasion, in the lovely golds and reds of fall foliage.
This 2016 event saw Human Tecar-treated athletes triumph: an utterly amazing Mary Keitany, 34, from Kenya – whose manager is Mario Scerri’s longtime friend Gianni Demadonna – won her third NY City Marathon in a row in 2 hours, 24 minutes and 26 seconds in spite of shoulder blade pain the evening before the race, breaking away from the pack at mile 10 and running solo for over half the distance. This superb athlete, the second fastest woman in history, has been regularly supported by Human Tecar both during training in her own country and in the Big Apple where, the day before the race, she got three treatments (one for overall recovery, another as pre-run preparation and a third one at 8 pm, specifically to fight the pain in her back, arms and shoulders). The men’s winner is the youngest ever to have won a NYC Marathon, and is also supported by our methodology: Ghirmay Ghebreslassie, a 20-year-old from Eritrea whose manager is another longtime friend of Human Tecar, Jos Hermens.
Besides treatment throughout the year, Ghirmay enjoyed two Human Tecar sessions the day before the race – one of general recovery and another for pain in his heel, which was obviously resolved very fast, allowing him to score the third fastest time ever in New York, 2:07:51. Kenyan Lucas Rotich (managed by Michel Boeting) is also very familiar with our method, and was treated twice the day before the race, coming in second in 2:08:53. Add to all this that the Human Tecar service area saw the presence of evergreen US champion and former NYCM winner Meb Keflezighi, still going strong at 41 – “Marathon Meb” never fails to seek his old friend Mario Scerri out – as well as two ‘top guns’ from the Italian Air Force National Acrobatic Team – Stefano Centioni and Luca Pacitto – who ran the marathon as amateurs and requested our treatments (Human Tecar regularly supports the Acrobatic Team), and we can confidently say Human Tecar went the extra mile at the New York City Marathon.
